A resource-collecting adventure game

Cult of the Lamb is a top-down adventure game in which the player takes on the role of a possessed Lamb who was saved from death by a mysterious stranger. The player’s goal in the action-packed game is to build a cult in the name of this mysterious stranger. The player will need to collect resources and explore the world to accomplish this task.

This game bears some resemblance to Don’t Starve and its sequel, Don’t Starve Together. The games are comparable due to the resource collection aspect, the art style, and because the world is randomly generated.

Build a cult

In Cult of Lamb, the player’s primary goal is to build a loyal following for the mysterious stranger who saved them. It involves a good amount of exploring, as the player will have to find new resources and followers to grow the cult. The player can also train the followers to explore and embark on quests.

Combat and exploration

Part of the game involves combat with non-believers of your cult. Defeating rival cult leaders is necessary to ensure the player’s cult succeeds. That includes fighting off hordes of enemies and absorbing the power of the cult leaders who have been defeated. It does introduce some cartoon violence to the game.

Procedural replayability

The game world is split into four regions, but each new game is randomly generated, giving the game added replayability. The game forces the player to explore in order to find the necessary resources and compete against other tribes. Meanwhile, the varied gameplay mechanics—combat, gathering resources, cult management—should prevent the game from feeling stale.

Frantic at times

While the game provides a varied experience in terms of game mechanics, the player is generally required to tackle all aspects if they want to succeed. That can mean frantic battles at times and grinding resource collection at others. Players who prefer a specific aspect of the game may be frustrated that they can’t play that way all of the time.

What’s new in the Sins of the Flesh update

Cult of the Lamb’s much-awaited major content expansion, Sins of the Flesh, comes packed with fresh features, rituals, and buildings, and even adds to the lore of a favorite character, making it one of the game’s most comprehensive updates so far. One of the main highlights of this free update is a new progression system that lends deeper layers and intricacy to the management of your cult.

Indulge in gluttonous rituals, build structures symbolizing vanity, and promote the eight new wrathful doctrines to amass Sin, a novel resource that you can utilize to upgrade the temple, eliminate cooldowns on purgatory, and construct exciting structures. Dark and sinister new rituals form part of this update. Guide your followers to decadence and gather Sin through the Rite of Lust, Rite of Wrath, Gluttony of Cannibals, and Sinner’s Pride.

Meanwhile, you can now introduce your most dedicated followers to the inner circle of Disciples, an updated leveling system of follower progression. Bolster your followers to generate more Devotion and educate dissenting ones. Besides that, the update also comes with new structures to build like the Drinkhouse and Mating Tent. Look out for the Golden Egg when using the latter. Fifteen new lore tablets also add to the story of Sozo.

Beyond that, a Tailor building has been also introduced — choose from 23 styles to put on your followers. Expect to experience improved Cult life with shiny Poop variants, baneful brooms, and bigger, better buildings. A Blunderbuss weapon has also been added for combating heretics. Player feedback has also been incorporated, with skipping sermons, renaming followers, new achievements, and auto-leveling added to the game.

Gain a massive following

Preach your cult-ish doctrine and expand the following of the mysterious figure who saved your life in Cult of the Lamb. This cartoonishly dark title will have you exploring foreign lands and seeking out woodland Followers to lure into joining your cult. Slay the leaders of opposing groups and absorb their power to expand yours. The worlds you can explore are randomly generated, too, introducing variation and ensuring exciting gameplay all throughout.
